Who should get it

The Amex Platinum Reserve was not always an easy card to recommend. Earlier, it lacked a strong reason to choose it over other Amex cards.

But with the current referral-linked 19,000 MR points welcome offer, Accor-style hotel benefits, Taj Epicure Plus, EazyDiner Prime, ShopWise 3X rewards, Reward Multiplier 3X, select 5X offers, the card finally makes sense for the right user.

It is best for someone chasing welcome value, hotel dining perks, and Amex accelerated rewards.

For a fee of ₹10,000 + GST, the card can be worth it if you actively use the benefits. Considering that cards like Amex Platinum Travel, Gold Charge, and MRCC are not open for fresh applications right now, the Platinum Reserve has become the most practical way to enter the Amex ecosystem.

With up to 19,000 Membership Rewards points on offer, Platinum Reserve is no longer just a niche premium card. For many users, it is now the smartest entry point into Amex in 2026, while they wait for an upgrade link that might help convert the card to MRCC or Platinum Travel.

Amex Platinum Reserve FAQs

Is the Amex Platinum Reserve Credit Card still available to new applicants in India?

Yes. American Express paused new card applications in India in early 2025 for a systems upgrade but has since reopened them, and the Platinum Reserve Credit Card is openly issued to new applicants as of June 2026.

What are the joining and renewal fees for the Amex Platinum Reserve?

The card carries a first-year fee of ₹10,000 plus GST and a renewal fee of ₹10,000 plus GST from the second year. The renewal fee is waived in full if you spend ₹10 lakh or more in the preceding membership year.

What welcome bonus does the Amex Platinum Reserve offer?

The standard welcome gift is 11,000 Membership Rewards points, credited after you pay the annual fee and spend ₹30,000 within the first 90 days. Larger totals such as 19,000 points come from time-limited referral offers.

How many Membership Rewards points does the Platinum Reserve earn, and are any spends excluded?

It earns 1 Membership Rewards point for every ₹50 spent, with up to 3X available through the Reward Multiplier portal. Spends on fuel, insurance, utilities, EMI conversions at point of sale and cash transactions earn no points.

Can Membership Rewards points from the Platinum Reserve be transferred to airlines and hotels?

Yes. Points transfer to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio and to airline frequent-flyer partners such as Emirates Skywards and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at 2:1 (800 points become 400 miles). Hilton Honors transfers at roughly 1,000 points to 900 Hilton points.
