Who should get it

Platinum Reserve is a benefits-led card, not a points-earning one. The base rate is a modest 1 Membership Rewards point per ₹50, and the real value sits in the wrapper: ₹12,000 a year in monthly milestone vouchers (₹1,000 per ₹50,000 spend), 12 domestic lounge visits plus a Priority Pass, twice-monthly golf, and a stack of hotel and dining memberships (Taj Epicure Plus, ALL Accor+ Explorer, EazyDiner Prime). If you would actually use those memberships, the perks comfortably outvalue the ₹10,000 + GST fee.

It suits a spender who can hit ₹50,000 every month to bank the vouchers, and ideally ₹10 lakh a year to trigger the renewal-fee waiver. Heavy fuel, utility, insurance or EMI spenders earn nothing on those categories, and the 3.5% + GST forex markup makes it a poor overseas card. Transfer value is real but indirect — Membership Rewards move to Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1 and to airline partners at 2:1 — so it rewards people who plan redemptions rather than chase a flat cashback rate.

Amex Platinum Reserve FAQs

Is the Amex Platinum Reserve Credit Card still available to new applicants in India?

Yes. American Express paused new card applications in India in early 2025 for a systems upgrade but has since reopened them, and the Platinum Reserve Credit Card is openly issued to new applicants as of June 2026.

What are the joining and renewal fees for the Amex Platinum Reserve?

The card carries a first-year fee of ₹10,000 plus GST and a renewal fee of ₹10,000 plus GST from the second year. The renewal fee is waived in full if you spend ₹10 lakh or more in the preceding membership year.

What welcome bonus does the Amex Platinum Reserve offer?

The standard welcome gift is 11,000 Membership Rewards points, credited after you pay the annual fee and spend ₹30,000 within the first 90 days. Larger totals such as 19,000 points come from time-limited referral offers and are not part of the guaranteed welcome benefit.

How many Membership Rewards points does the Platinum Reserve earn, and are any spends excluded?

It earns 1 Membership Rewards point for every ₹50 spent, with up to 3X available through the Reward Multiplier portal. Spends on fuel, insurance, utilities, EMI conversions at point of sale and cash transactions earn no points.

Can Membership Rewards points from the Platinum Reserve be transferred to airlines and hotels?

Yes. Points transfer to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio and to airline frequent-flyer partners such as Emirates Skywards and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at 2:1 (800 points become 400 miles). Hilton Honors transfers at roughly 1,000 points to 900 Hilton points.
