For the longest time, HDFC premium cards had one beautiful play.

Buy vouchers through SmartBuy, pay with Infinia, Diners Black, Diners Black Metal, BizBlack Metal, Regalia Gold, Regalia, Diners Privilege or BizPower, and quietly extract a strong reward rate on everyday spending.

It was simple. It was repeatable. And for many users, it was the cleanest way to convert regular monthly expenses into reward points.

That game has now changed.

HDFC has introduced a separate monthly cap of 3,000 accelerated Reward Points on Brand Vouchers purchased via SmartBuy.

The overall SmartBuy cap still exists, but vouchers now have their own smaller bucket.

And that changes the math completely.

What Has Changed?

Earlier, Infinia users could push voucher spends close to ₹1.12 lakh per month and earn roughly 16.67% value through SmartBuy vouchers.

Now, the voucher-specific accelerated reward cap is just 3,000 points per month.

For Infinia, that cap is reached at only around ₹22,500 of voucher spends.

That means the practical monthly sweet spot has dropped from:

EarlierNow
Around ₹1,12,500Around ₹22,500

That is not a small revision.

That is HDFC clearly telling premium users that the voucher party is no longer unlimited.

Important: This Limit Is Only For The Voucher Route

One important clarification: these new limits apply only to the Brand Voucher route on SmartBuy.

This does not mean your entire SmartBuy earning limit has been reduced to 3,000 points.

For example, Infinia still has a larger SmartBuy monthly cap. Diners Black Metal and BizBlack Metal also continue to have their larger overall SmartBuy caps.

The new 3,000-point cap is specifically for accelerated points earned through Brand Vouchers purchased via SmartBuy.

So if you hit the 3,000-point voucher cap in a month, the voucher route stops giving accelerated rewards beyond that point. But your remaining SmartBuy limit can still be used through other eligible SmartBuy categories like flights, hotels, Apple, or other non-voucher routes.

That is the main point users should understand.

HDFC has not reduced the entire SmartBuy game to 3,000 points.

It has only restricted how much of that game can now be played through vouchers.

The New Voucher Reward Structure

Brand Voucher rewards now work differently depending on the card.

Infinia still gets the best voucher multiplier at 5X.

Diners Black Metal, BizBlack Metal and Diners Black get 3X on vouchers.

Regalia Gold, Regalia, Diners Privilege and BizPower show 5X, but their point value is lower than Infinia and Diners Black cards.

CardVoucher MultiplierVoucher Accelerated RP Cap

Regalia Gold5X3,000 RP/month
Regalia5X3,000 RP/month
Diners Privilege5X3,000 RP/month
BizPower5X3,000 RP/month

The important point: the 3,000 RP cap applies only to the accelerated voucher points.

You still earn base Reward Points as per your card’s normal reward structure.

Infinia: The Biggest Impact

Infinia earns 5 Reward Points per ₹150 on regular eligible spends.

On SmartBuy Brand Vouchers, it earns 5X.

SpendBase RPAccelerated RPTotal RP

At ₹22,500 monthly voucher spend, Infinia hits the new voucher cap.

Since Infinia points can be worth ₹1 per point for premium redemptions like flights, hotels, Apple products and Tanishq vouchers, the value is:

Monthly Voucher SpendTotal RP EarnedApprox ValueReward Rate
₹22,5003,750 RP₹3,75016.67%

₹50,0004,667 RP₹4,6679.33%
₹1,12,5006,750 RP₹6,7506%

This is the real devaluation.

At ₹22,500, Infinia still gives a beautiful 16.67% return.

But after that, the return starts falling sharply because the accelerated points stop at 3,000.

Infinia: Old Vs New

Earlier, a large voucher user could push close to ₹1.12 lakh monthly voucher spends and earn around 18,750 total points.

Now, the same ₹1.12 lakh spend gives only around 6,750 total points.

That is a monthly value drop of around ₹12,000 for heavy voucher users.

Annualized, this can mean a reduction of nearly ₹1.44 lakh in potential voucher value.

Diners Black Metal, BizBlack Metal And Diners Black

These cards earn 5 Reward Points per ₹150 as base rewards.

But unlike Infinia, they now earn only 3X on Brand Vouchers.

SpendBase RPAccelerated RPTotal RP

The good news: the 10% return is still strong till ₹45,000.

The bad news: beyond that, voucher spends become far less exciting.

Regalia Gold

Regalia Gold earns 5 Reward Points per ₹200 as base rewards.

It also shows 5X on Brand Vouchers, but the point value is lower than Infinia and Diners Black. For travel redemptions, Regalia Gold points are generally valued at ₹0.50 per point.

₹75,0004,875 RP₹2,4383.25%
₹1,00,0005,500 RP₹2,7502.75%

Regalia Gold is better than old Regalia and Diners Privilege for voucher spends because it earns 5 RP per ₹200, not 4 RP per ₹200.

But because each point is worth only around ₹0.50 for travel, the real return is still much lower than Infinia.

Regalia And Diners Privilege

Regalia and Diners Privilege earn 4 Reward Points per ₹200 as base rewards.

They show 5X on Brand Vouchers, but their redemption value is lower. For travel redemptions, these points are generally valued at ₹0.50 per point.

SpendBase RPAccelerated RPTotal RP

For Regalia and Diners Privilege, SmartBuy vouchers are still useful, but this is no longer a premium-level reward hack.

It is a decent 5% play till the cap.

BizPower

BizPower earns 4 Reward Points per ₹150 as base rewards and shows 5X on Brand Vouchers.

Its point value is also lower than Infinia/DCB, so assuming ₹0.50 per point, the calculation looks like this:

SpendBase RPAccelerated RPTotal RP
₹15041620

BizPower still does reasonably well till the cap, but the upside is limited.

This is the cleanest way to think about the new cap.

Spend up to the sweet spot if the vouchers are useful.

Beyond that, the reward rate starts falling because only base points continue.

What This Means For Premium Card Users

This change does not kill SmartBuy.

But it changes how SmartBuy should be used.

Earlier, vouchers could be the main strategy. You could buy vouchers for Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Swiggy, grocery, food delivery, OTT, medicines and other everyday spends, and collect outsized rewards month after month.

Now, vouchers should be treated as a limited monthly booster.

Use them till the cap. Then stop forcing spends.

For Infinia, that means around ₹22,500 per month.

For BizPower, that means around ₹28,125 per month.

For Regalia Gold, that means around ₹30,000 per month.

For Regalia and Diners Privilege, that means around ₹37,500 per month.

For Diners Black, Diners Black Metal and BizBlack Metal, that means around ₹45,000 per month.

Beyond these levels, the extra voucher spend earns mostly base rewards, which makes the entire strategy less attractive.

The New SmartBuy Strategy

The smarter approach now is to split SmartBuy usage.

Use CaseStrategy
Brand vouchersUse only till the voucher cap
FlightsContinue using if pricing is competitive
HotelsStill very powerful at 10X
Apple / TresorUseful if price is good
Myntra / Nykaa / Pharmeasy / JockeyUse selectively
Vouchers beyond capAvoid unless you need the voucher anyway

For Infinia users especially, hotels remain a very important SmartBuy category because they still earn 10X and can help use the larger overall monthly SmartBuy cap.

For Regalia Gold users, the voucher route is still useful, but the practical sweet spot is only around ₹30,000 per month. After that, the reward rate drops quickly.

Final Verdict

HDFC has not destroyed SmartBuy.

But it has ended the easiest version of the voucher game.

The old strategy was simple: buy large volumes of vouchers and enjoy premium-level rewards on everyday spends.

The new strategy is more disciplined: use vouchers only up to the monthly cap, then move your spends elsewhere.

For Infinia, the headline is clear:

The monthly high-reward voucher sweet spot has dropped from around ₹1.12 lakh to ₹22,500.

That is a major devaluation.

Infinia is still a fantastic card for flights, hotels and transfer partners. Diners Black and BizBlack are still strong. Regalia Gold remains useful for moderate voucher spends. SmartBuy is still valuable.

But the voucher party is no longer unlimited.
